GETTING MY KINKY BOOTS ON

This time last week I was on my way to Norwich Theatre Royal to watch Kinky Boots The Musical. I have to admit I had no idea as to what I was letting myself in for apart from the fact there was going to be a lot of sass, a lot of singing and even more red. Oh and some killer high heeled boots. That was all I needed to know really!

Norwich Theatre Royal is my favourite theatre to visit for so many reasons. Number one it is my local theatre so obviously it is always the top of my list of venues. Number two it has a real welcoming and family feel, all the staff are always so happy and helpful- which let’s be honest makes a massive difference. Number three- they show such a variety of performances, there is literally something for everyone. Whatever your age, gender, whether you want to laugh, cry or just immerse yourself in a whole other world. They have something for you to get tickets to!

I love visiting the theatre. It is pure escapism. A place to forget about life, your stresses and worries. A chance to get dressed up and make an effort. It is so easy to forget to take time out to escape our busy lives. Chris and I are self employed and as amazing as that is, I think we can both agree it is not all as easy and as simple as it sounds. We find it very hard to switch off as our phones are work to us and as soon as you look at it, it is like being at work for everyone else. Which is why visiting the theatre is so important to us!

So if you have not heard of Kinky Boots I will not judge you. But I will judge you if you read this blog post and then decide not to go and watch it if you get the chance.

I think Chris would be first to tell you sometimes I drag him to things that are not always his cup of tea but he does them to support me, as I do for him. It is all part of being in a relationship. When I said to him the title of the production he probably thought “Oh no, what is she dragging me to see” but oh was he wrong. Literally within 10 minutes of the show starting we both turned to each other and grinned from ear to ear. It was the funniest show we have seen in ages, if not ever. We did not stop laughing- nor did the rest of the audience throughout the whole show. So much laughter, sass, expression, singing, acting, it was phenomenal and I do not say that lightly at all.

The storyline was based on a son who had inherited a shoe store that he was not passionate about at all. Until he met Lola that is. She changed everything. Made his opinions change, allowed him to see the world differently and to accept everyone for who they are. So it really had a great underlying moral. Which is probably why I loved it even more. Anything that has a great story about underdogs, accepting people and I am all over that. All over it. We both loved it so much that we want to go and see it again. That never happens. I am one of those people that if I have seen something once, then I have seen it. There is something so amazing about Kinky Boots that I could honestly go and watch it again and again. A real feel good production that left both myself and Chris with a huge smile on our faces. That is what you want on a Wednesday evening. No hump day feelings for us!

Get your Kinky Boots on right now and go and see this show. You will be laughing for hours!
